Don't have a technical cofounder? Try Deepsel

Technical leadership for startupsfounders

You have the idea, the customers — but no one you trust to take charge of the technology. Deepsel gives you founder-level judgment and engineering in one accountable monthly retainer, so you stop guessing and start shipping.

30 minutes with a Fractional Founder — you'll leave with a clear read on your technical situation, whether or not we work together.

Month-to-month, no lock-in IP ownership agreement Working demo every 2 weeks Transparent roadmap and reporting
The problem

Every option on the table leaves the job half-done.

If you're a non-technical founder, the market hands you three bad choices — and all of them quietly make you the engineering manager.

Option 1

Hire a Fractional CTO

Big bucks buys you excellent advice — and zero hands on the keyboard. You still have to find, hire, and manage the people who actually build.

✕  Advice without execution
✕  Hire, interview, manage engineers yourself
Option 2

Hire an agency

You get hands — but no trusted head. When you can't evaluate the code, you can't tell a great sprint from an expensive rewrite waiting to happen.

✕  Spend $100k+ on pricing not designed for startups
✕  Tech debt pile up with no trusted reviewers
✕  Expensive rebuilds when you need to pivot
Option 3

Use a talent marketplace

Vetted freelancers solve the hiring problem — but that's where the platform stops. You're still scoping, managing, and betting your roadmap on a freelancer's calendar.

✕  Still managing engineers, scope, QA, delivery yourself
✕  No structured roadmaps and reporting — visibility into progress is entirely on you
✕  Nobody to call when shit hits the fan
The Deepsel model

Both halves of a technical cofounder. One retainer.

A Fractional Founder who understands startups, takes ownership of technical decisions and builds the product hands-on — for what a regular advise-only Fractional CTO alone would cost.

The head

Leads your technology like a startup cofounder

  • Translates your business decisions into technology in plain English, founder to founder, by someone who understands startups and has built startups before
  • Makes startup-stage decisions — scopes the version that wins customers on your runway, not the enterprise build you don't need yet
  • Knows the founder's calendar — sits in your investor calls, tech-diligence reviews, and hiring decisions when you need a CTO in the room
+
The hands

And builds it, hands on the code

  • The person who makes the decisions is the person who writes the code — no handoff, nothing lost in translation
  • Builds at startup speed — working software demoed every two weeks, progress you can see, not status decks

Fractional CTOs advise but don't build. Agencies and freelancers build but leave no one accountable. Deepsel is the only model where one leader does both — with one throat to choke and no lock-in.

The process

How do I trust the process?

You don't take our word for it — we replace trust with transparency: a roadmap you can read, demos you can click, reporting in plain English, and a score you control. You'll never wonder what's happening with your product.

Quarterly

Quarterly plan with your Fractional Founder

Direction, build vs. buy, and risks to kill early — set together each quarter.

Monthly

Monthly delivery plan

What ships this month, in plain English — you know exactly what to expect.

Every 2 weeks

Regular sprint demo

Working software on a call, not a status deck. You click the actual product.

Monthly

Plain-English scorecard

What shipped, what it means for your business, and what's next month.

Guarantees

30-day money-back guarantee

Not convinced after your first 30 days? Say the word and we refund the month — in full, no questions, no negotiation. And you keep everything we produced: the code, the docs, the roadmap. The worst case of trying Deepsel is a free month of work.

A bad month is free

After the first 30 days, the guarantee doesn't stop: if your monthly Happiness Index — scored by you, not us — drops below 50, that month is fully refunded too.

7-day engineer replacement

If anyone on your engagement isn't a fit — skill, communication, anything — we replace them within 7 days. You never manage the problem; you just tell us once.

No lock-in

Every retainer is month-to-month: 30 days' notice, zero termination fees. You keep the code, the repos, and the IP — they were in your accounts from the first commit.

You score us every month — a bad month is free.

The Happiness Index is computed from what actually happened — on-time delivery, work you accepted, and production incidents. Not our self-assessment; your own approvals. That's why we can promise a refund when it drops below 50: the score is yours, not ours.

Gemina AI Sunsetted

Our own homegrown product. In the initial introduction period of AI in 2023-2024, before AI coding agents existed in — when "AI development" meant copy-pasting one file at a time into ChatGPT — Gemina AI was one of the first harnesses that understood your whole codebase on disk and orchestrated edits across multiple files. We retired it once modern agent harnesses caught up.

For context: a traditional Fractional CTO alone runs $10–20k/month — and you'd still need to hire and manage the team.

We take on a small number of retainer clients at a time — quality over volume is the whole model. If we're at capacity, you'll join a short waitlist.

Who you'll actually work with

Hi, I'm Tim. I'll be your Fractional Founder

I run Deepsel, a small senior engineering team in Vietnam that has spent years shipping real products for startups and established companies. The founders who struggled most weren't short on ideas or money — they were short on someone technical they could trust. That's the job I do now.

When you work with Deepsel, I'm the one on your calls, reviewing every architecture decision, and personally accountable for what my team ships. You get a technical cofounder's judgment — without giving up equity or betting your runway on a $300k/year hire.

  • Years of production systems shipped for our clients.
  • Deliberately small: a 3-person senior team, a handful of clients, and my name on every engagement
  • Fluent-English, founder-to-founder communication — you'll never decode agency-speak or chase a status update

FAQ

The questions founders actually ask us.

Shouldn't I just find a real technical cofounder instead?
If you can — yes! A great technical cofounder is the best deal in startups. But the search takes 6–12 months on average, costs 40–50% of your equity, and most matches fail. If you have traction now, a Fractional Founder and team gets you shipping this month for cash instead of equity — and if you later find the perfect cofounder, you hand them a clean, documented codebase instead of a napkin. We're happy to talk you through the trade-off honestly on a discovery call; sometimes we do advise founders to keep looking.
Who owns the code and the IP?
You do, from the first commit. Everything is assigned to you under a US-jurisdiction IP agreement — enforceable in courts. The repos, servers, and all assets live in your accounts; we work with role-based access you can revoke anytime.
What if it doesn't work out?
Every retainer is month-to-month — 30 days' notice, no termination fees, no lock-in. You keep the code, the docs, the scorecard history, and the roadmap. Your first 30 days are covered by a full money-back guarantee, we replace any engineer who isn't a fit within 7 days, and if your monthly Happiness Index drops below 50, that month is fully refunded. We designed the exit to be easy on purpose: it's the strongest incentive we can give ourselves to keep earning the renewal.
I've been burned by contractors before. Why is this different?
Almost every horror story has the same root cause: a non-technical founder buying code and hiring engineers they couldn't evaluate. We built the whole model around removing that failure mode — a technical cofounder who answers to you personally, working software demoed every two weeks, a plain-English monthly scorecard, and a contract you can walk from any month. You never have to take our word for the quality; you can see it.
How many clients do you take on?
A handful at a time — we're a deliberately small senior team, and the model only works if your Fractional Founder actually knows your product deeply. That's a feature: you'll never be account #67. If we're at capacity we'll tell you straight and offer a waitlist spot rather than degrade quality.

Talk to our founder about your product.

30 minutes. Bring your idea, your vibecoded prototype, or the project a previous developer left half-finished. You'll leave with an honest technical read on where you stand, and whether or not we should work together.
